Alberta Life Sciences Week
The Hub hosted a panel on Bold Ideas, Breakthrough Impact: Why Radical Innovation is Needed to Transform Health and Life Sciences on September 23, bringing together leaders from the worlds of challenge-based innovation, digital health, healthy aging research, and entrepreneurship to explore how transformative ideas become real-world impact. Panelists included Annika Anderson, Senior Team Relations Manager, XPRIZE Health; Jordan Masys, Co-Founder and Coo, Labfront; and Anthony Kaul, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Cloud DX.
Health Research Challenge
On September 21, Labfront and the XPRIZE Canada Hub hosted an intensive, one-day research challenge at the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking designed to fast-track innovation in women's health and brain health from a research question to a pilot study participants can actually run. Six teams competed with three teams being awarded $5000 in tools to pursue their research project over the next year.

Waterloo Tech Week
The XPRIZE Canada Hub participated in Waterloo Tech Week on September 14, 2026, hosting an interactive session on how global innovation prizes are designed and how problem-first thinking can sharpen an approach to hard challenges. The session covered how XPRIZE turns ambitious ideas into validated, real-world solutions, and what the Canada Hub is building to scale that work locally, and discussed where AI is heading and the technical problems ready for a breakthrough. This was followed by a small-group working session on a real-world challenge, followed by approaches that have helped XPRIZE alumni succeed along with time to connect with the Hub team.
XPRIZE Quantum Applications Team Summit
Hosted at the University of Calgary in partnership with Quantum City and the XPRIZE Canada Hub from August 19 – 21, the Team Summit was an opportunity for Finalists to challenge assumptions and pressure-test ideas while connecting with others to define what quantum computing can make possible.
XPRIZE Healthspan Finalists Watch Party
In follow-up to June's XPRIZE Health Symposium, the XPRIZE Canada Hub hosted a Calgary community watch party of the XPRIZE Healthspan Finalist Awards Ceremony on August 11.
Calgary longevity enthusiasts, biotech professionals, and science advocates caught up and cheered on the innovators turning the promise of longevity science into clinical reality. 10 Finalists teams from the United States, South Korea, Japan, and China were announced as Milestone 2 Awardees receiving $1 million each and access to key clinical testing resources, to accelerate development and clinical testing of its therapeutic approach.
XPRIZE Healthspan Judging Summit & XPRIZE Health Symposium
From June 10-12, the XPRIZE Healthspan judges and team were hosted by the XPRIZE Canada Hub at the University of Calgary for an insightful session and to determine the Top 10 Finalist Teams of the Milestone 2 award in the Healthspan competition.
Calgary Climate Week 2026
As part of Calgary Climate Week, the XPRIZE Canada Hub brought XPRIZE alum for a conversation on what it takes to build and scale climate solutions in today’s rapidly evolving global market. Jim Mann, UNDO Carbon (UK), Madison Savilow, Carbon Upcycling (Calgary), and Alex Ip, CERT Systems Inc (Toronto) alum from the NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE and Carbon Removal XPRIZE, these founders have competed on the world stage and are now commercializing solutions with real market impact.
XPRIZE Global Brain Trust convenes in Montreal
The XPRIZE Canada Hub was able to bring the XPRIZE Global Brain Trust to McGill University to start the design of future competitions in Food, Water & Waste; Health, and Energy, Climate + Nature that will ignite breakthrough solutions.
Jim Mann, Founder and CEO of UNDO Carbon came to visit the University of Calgary and the XPRIZE Canada Hub. He talks about UNDO’s experience participating in the XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition and the value of the process beyond the prize itself. UNDO Carbon was named one of four global winners in the final round of the $100 million XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition, selected from more than 1,300 teams worldwide for its enhanced rock weathering approach to permanent carbon removal.
The XPRIZE Canada Hub was a marketing partner for Government Innovation Week Federal 2026 in Ottawa. Government Innovation Week Federal brings together Federal leaders to integrate Gov 3.0 innovations while safeguarding equity, privacy, and security—core priorities of the current government's mandate.

XPRIZE Water Scarcity Track A Team Summit
The XPRIZE Water Scarcity Track A Team Summit was hosted by the XPRIZE Canada Hub from August 18 to 20, 2025. The $119M XPRIZE Water Scarcity sponsored by the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative is the largest prize purse in XPRIZE history.
